The UN Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), together with Griffith University, will convene the inaugural Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Forum for National Designated Entities (NDEs) from 1 to 5 December 2025 in Brisbane, Australia. The event will take place under the theme “Co-creation for System Transformation: Accelerating Technology and Behavioural Change for Climate Resilience.”
National Designated Entities serve as national focal points for technology development and transfer under the UN Climate Change (UNFCCC) Technology Mechanism, which comprises the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN).
For over a decade, the CTCN has promoted the accelerated deployment of environmentally sound technologies to support low-carbon and climate-resilient development in response to developing country priorities.
The SIDS Forum will provide a platform for NDEs to exchange experiences, present innovative technologies, and strengthen collaboration with partners to advance climate-resilient and low-emission development. The discussions will focus on enhancing access to finance, scaling technology solutions, and aligning national actions with global climate goals.
One of the components of the Forum will be the Capacity Building Programme on Co-creation for System Transformation, which emphasizes integrating behavioural and social dimensions into climate technology deployment. Drawing on the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report, the programme will highlight how co-creation and participatory approaches can drive systemic change in support of sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient development across SIDS.
The SIDS Forum will bring together NDEs, representatives from the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism, financial institutions, academia, private sector partners, and civil society organizations. Participants will review experiences from 2024, share lessons learned, and identify opportunities for collaboration and scaling up in 2025 and beyond.
