Capacity building

CTCN's Capacity Building service area is an ongoing process that links UNFCCC mechanisms to establish and foster ownership among NDEs, Network members, and local communities in the development, dissemination, and demonstration of demand-driven climate technology transfer and innovation. By applying systematic, segment-based, and co-creation approaches, CTCN's capacity-building activities are implemented at global, regional, and national levels through 4 programmatic modules:

i. Thematic Capacity Building Programme
ii. Network Engagement Programme
iii. International RD&D Programme
iv. Stakeholder Engagement Programme

These modules are tailored to the level of ownership of participating NDEs and Network members. Modules applied at the global and regional levels are input to the development of scalable TA ideation, whereas modules applied at the national level serve as outputs from each TA, enhancing local capacities related to specific technologies transferred.

In alignment with the 3rd Programme of Work (2023-2027), we introduce a 5-year sequential strategic framework for capacity building. The first three years focus on informing and disseminating readily available climate technologies, tools, policies, and best practices for country-driven planning. The fourth year focuses on training NDEs to make technology choices in consultation with financing stakeholders. The final year enables NDEs to capture the climate action impact resulting from the accumulated outcomes of technology transfer implemented at the local level.

Explore three global activities that CTCN offers to countries, connecting them with global players and thus enhancing the overall efficacy of each country's enabling environment for technology transfer and innovation. These activities include a Joint Work Plan developed with the UNFCCC bodies as well as CTCN’s engagement of global network members to support NDEs through a thematic program focused on the latest technology trends, which countries can consider for their NDC achievements. Special emphasis is placed on supporting youth in the field of climate technology transfer and innovation.
joint programmes
Joint programmes
Our joint work plans with the UNFCCC's Technology, Finance, and Capacity-building mechanisms enable NDEs to participate in cohesive and comprehensive activities that are endorsed by the Parties.
thematic programmes
Thematic programmes
Thematic capacity-building programmes equip NDEs with the knowledge and skills to lead in technology transfer, policy, and financing for emerging climate technologies.
youth programmes
Youth programmes
Youth Climate Innovation Programme aims to provide young people with training and tools to develop solutions addressing various climate change challenges and to foster the creation of climate startups and SMEs in developing countries.
