Capacity building

CTCN's Capacity Building service area is an ongoing process that links UNFCCC mechanisms to establish and foster ownership among NDEs, Network members, and local communities in the development, dissemination, and demonstration of demand-driven climate technology transfer and innovation. By applying systematic, segment-based, and co-creation approaches, CTCN's capacity-building activities are implemented at global, regional, and national levels through 4 programmatic modules:

i. Thematic Capacity Building Programme
ii. Network Engagement Programme
iii. International RD&D Programme
iv. Stakeholder Engagement Programme

These modules are tailored to the level of ownership of participating NDEs and Network members. Modules applied at the global and regional levels are input to the development of scalable TA ideation, whereas modules applied at the national level serve as outputs from each TA, enhancing local capacities related to specific technologies transferred.

In alignment with the 3rd Programme of Work (2023-2027), we introduce a 5-year sequential strategic framework for capacity building. The first three years focus on informing and disseminating readily available climate technologies, tools, policies, and best practices for country-driven planning. The fourth year focuses on training NDEs to make technology choices in consultation with financing stakeholders. The final year enables NDEs to capture the climate action impact resulting from the accumulated outcomes of technology transfer implemented at the local level.

Regional

Regional capacity building explores four sequential made-to-order activities under implementation since 2023. By acknowledging ‘there is no single formula’, CTCN develops activities reflecting NDEs’ information and coordination needs.
