Workshop on Strengthening Whole-of-Society Capacities for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Resilience:

Inclusive Governance and Innovative Mechanisms

This three-day online workshop brings together government officials, practitioners and stakeholders to explore how inclusive governance, innovative tools and cross-sector collaboration can strengthen disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate resilience.

Organized by UN DESA/DPIDG/UNPOG, UNITAR CIFAL Jeju and UNDRR ONEA & GETI in collaboration with UN CTCN, the workshop will introduce practical approaches to risk-informed planning, institutional strengthening and whole-of-society engagement. Participants will gain insights into global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework and the SDGs, while exploring how to translate these into actionable strategies at national and local levels. Key themes include inclusive and gender-responsive DRR, strategic foresight for climate policy, and the role of the private sector and climate technologies in driving resilience. Through expert presentations, case studies and interactive sessions, participants will build knowledge on tools such as the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities, as well as emerging approaches leveraging data, AI and innovation.

The workshop aims to equip participants with the knowledge and practical tools needed to enhance policy coherence, mobilize investment and strengthen resilience in an increasingly complex and climate-impacted world.

Organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) and its project office - United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) CIFAL Jeju/Jeju International Training Center (JITC) and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Office for Northeast Asia (ONEA) and Global Education and Training Institute (GETI) and Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030), in collaboration with the United Nations Climate Technology Centre and Network (UN CTCN), and with support from the Incheon Metropolitan City, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), and the Ministry of the Science and ICT (MSIT) of the Republic of Korea.
