The RIA Road corridor connects Roberts International Airport to Monrovia and links Margibi, Grand Bassa, River Cess and Sinoe counties, but deforestation, urbanization and climate impacts (flooding, erosion, unpredictable rainfall) are degrading the green infrastructure that buffers this corridor and the communities along it. Liberia has limited GIS-based ecological assessment capacity, nascent climate-smart landscape design methods, and constrained local capacity to plan, design and maintain resilient, biodiverse green corridors.
This CTCN technical assistance, will support Liberia to: (i) conduct a GIS-based ecological and climate-risk assessment; (ii) design a climate-resilient green infrastructure framework (vegetative buffers, eco-engineered stormwater and erosion control) linking farm-to-market roads and wetlands restoration; and (iii) build capacity and pilot priority interventions with government agencies, municipalities and communities.
