This publication, developed by the UN CTCN in collaboration with the Network member National Institute of Green Technology (NIGT), explores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing climate action across Latin America and Caribbean countries. In response to the COP28 mandate to strengthen awareness of AI’s role in climate solutions, the #AI4ClimateAction Initiative has facilitated knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, and capacity-building activities.

Applying an analytical framework based on system transformation areas, this brief synthesizes insights from CTCN’s regional capacity-building and technical assistance projects with strong AI components. As part of ongoing efforts to share knowledge on the applicability of AI in climate projects, including initiatives developed in Asia and the Pacific in 2024, this publication highlights national projects integrating AI into climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. It presents 12 case studies from the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region

This publication is intended as a resource for policymakers and stakeholders seeking to leverage digital innovation to advance their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Future editions will expand to include case studies from Africa, further strengthening the global knowledge base on AI-enabled climate resilience.

A previously published Asia-Pacific edition is available here.
