This publication, developed by the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) in collaboration with the National Institute of Green Technology (NIGT), explores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing climate action across Asia-Pacific countries. In response to the COP 28 mandate to enhance awareness of AI’s role in climate solutions, the #AI4ClimateAction Initiative has facilitated knowledge exchange, policy discussions, and capacity-building efforts.
This brief highlights national projects that integrate AI into climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, showcasing case studies from the region. Examples include South Korea’s TOPIS system, which optimizes traffic flow to reduce emissions, and other AI-driven innovations that bridge the technology gap. By demonstrating AI’s ability to enhance energy efficiency, predict extreme weather, and streamline climate action, this publication serves as a resource for policymakers and stakeholders aiming to leverage digital solutions to meet their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Future editions will expand to include case studies from Latin America and the Caribbean, reinforcing the global commitment to AI-powered climate resilience.
