Golnaz Arab is an environmental engineering and solid waste management professional with more than 15 years of experience supporting governments, international organizations, and private-sector clients in the design and implementation of sustainable waste management, circular economy, and resource efficiency solutions. She holds a Ph.D. in Solid Waste Management from the University of Alberta, Canada, and is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and TRUE Advisor. Her work combines applied research, technical advisory, policy support, and capacity building to help translate climate-relevant and environmentally sound technologies into practical solutions for low-carbon and climate-resilient development.
During her work at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence, North America’s largest sustainable waste processing and research facility, Golnaz gained hands-on experience in waste technology research, facility planning and design, environmental risk assessment, technical protocol development, and stakeholder engagement. Her work covered landfill, composting, anaerobic digestion, and integrated waste processing systems, as well as the preparation of technical literature reviews, laboratory guidelines, research protocols, and peer-reviewed publications. She was also awarded a Mitacs Accelerate Scholarship during her doctoral research, providing direct exposure to industry–academic collaboration models and applied research partnerships that support technology development, demonstration, and uptake.
Golnaz currently serves as Associate Director and Head of Waste Management at AESG in the UAE, where she leads complex waste management and environmental advisory assignments across the GCC and international markets. Her work includes the development of waste management strategies, technical guidelines, operational frameworks, compliance systems, institutional strengthening programmes, and circular economy approaches. She has supported assignments for international organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme, and brings experience in climate-related programmes, environmental governance, regulatory and policy advisory, and the preparation of practical implementation roadmaps for public- and private-sector stakeholders.
Golnaz’s expertise is particularly relevant to climate technology cooperation, technical assistance, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building initiatives in areas such as sustainable waste management, circular economy systems, organic waste treatment, landfill and diversion planning, waste-to-resource approaches, environmental compliance, climate mitigation, and institutional capacity development. She is experienced in translating complex technical findings into clear, decision-ready outputs for governments, development partners, industry stakeholders, and communities, and is well positioned to support country-driven programmes that require practical, research-informed, and implementation-focused climate and environmental technology solutions.
