The Climate Technology Centre and Network creates links between countries, technology providers, technology policy and the financial community to enable nations to meet their climate goals and commitments. NERCI, a non-profit research centre was established in 1999 to conduct basic and applied research in ocean and atmospheric sciences and coastal zone management. Its vision is to improve our understanding of climate change, its impact on the monsoon and ocean circulation and ecosystems in the Indian Ocean using in situ observations, satellite data and numerical ocean and climate models.
China National Cleaner Production Center (CNCPC) was established in 1994, mainly focusing on Cleaner Production Strategy, namely, transformation to pollution prevention strategy. It conducted a series of activities in CP (Cleaner Production) area, serving for energy conservation and pollution reduction. It is committed to reduce pollution including the GHG emission and enhance resources efficiency in China in industry sector, agriculture sector and service sector.
Electricity Storage:
This technology database is created to provide means to gather data, provide information and show insight into electricity storage. Institutional and crowd-sourced data on technologies and products is featured, next to other information regarding energy storage. This information is meant to be available for (re)use in energy policy and scenario analysis. Please feel free to contribute data, information and insight to these pages.
The Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics was established on the 1st January 2014, comprising researchers from five of the former institutes of the Faculty of Geosciences and the Environment. This gives the Institute a unique opportunity to group Earth Scientists, Environmental Scientists and Physical Geographers together, in a single institute, supported by world class field equipment, laboratories and computational capacity.
The mission of the new Institute is to undertake research of the highest international quality relating to earth surface processes and dynamics, over a range of space and time scales, and including environmental change whether related to human activities or natural processes.
National Council for Climate Change Sustainable Development and Public Leadership (NCCSD) acts as an apex organization at the national level disseminating information and technology that will enable appropriate action and suggest policy frameworks to tackle impacts of global warming and climate change. NCCSD consolidates existing learning into a well-structured body of knowledge that can communicate suitable adaptation practices in order to strengthen locally relevant action for sustainable development.
Island Water Technologies (IWT) is a Prince Edward Island based company speacializing in modular, solar powered wastewater treatment solutions. IWT provides self-powered wastewater treatment for domestic and industrial industries.
CII- Sonrabji Godrej Green Business Centre (CII Godrej GBC) was established in 2004, as the Confederation of Indian Industry's developmental institute on green practices and businesses, aimed at offering world class advidory services on conservation of natural resources. The services of the Green Business Centre include energy management, green buildings, green companies, renewable energy, GHG inventories, green product certification, waste management and cleaner production processes.
The Advanced Energy Centre (AEC) is a public-private partnership with the mission of fostering the adoption of innovative energy technologies in Canada, and leveraging those successes and experiences into international markets. The Centre is a part of MaRS Discovery District, a Canadian registered charity that operates as on of the world's largest urban innovation hubs. The AEC identifies and removes systemic barriers to the adoption of energy innovation, working with stakeholders in the energy sector to help bring innovative technologies to global markets.
CEGESTI is a non-profit organization founded in 1990, with the mission of contributing to sustainable development in Latin America with special emphasis on three core topics: Environment and Development; Responsible Business and Impact on Social Responsibility. Since its beginnings, CEGESTI has collaborated with bilateral and multilateral cooperation agencies, local entities, enterprises and other society actors in formulating initiatives that facilitate an equitable and sustainable development.
IFDC, established in the USA in October 1974, is known for its expertise in soil fertility management, fertilizers and agriculture and agribusiness that service developing countries. In 1977 under the United States of America’s Presidential Executive Order No. 11977 of March 14, IFDC was declared as a public international organization (PIO).
Since 1974, IFDC has focused on increasing and sustaining food security and agricultural productivity in over 100 developing countries through the development and transfer of effective, environmentally sound and climate smarcrop nutrient technologies and agribusiness expertise. IFDC has been working with the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) since 1977 for the uplifting of the rural farmers and the country’s agricultural economy through adoption of climate smart technology such as fertilizer deep placement (FDP).
Technology Executive Commitee
Together, the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) form the Technology Mechanism of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Created in 2010, the TEC is the Mechanism’s policy arm. The TEC focuses on identifying policies that can accelerate the development and transfer of low-emission and climate resilient technologies. The TEC works closely with key partners and stakeholders to develop inclusive policy recommendations that are up-to-date and cutting-edge. In particular, the TEC works closely with the CTCN to address technology development and transfer issues.
The TEC consists of 20 technology experts representing developed and developing countries. It meets at least twice a year and holds climate technology events to support efforts to address technology-related policy issues. Each year the TEC reports to the Conference of the Parties (COP) on its performance and activities. Specifically, the TEC analyses climate technology issues and develops balanced policy recommendations, supporting countries to accelerate action on climate change. Currently, the TEC’s focus areas are:
- Adaptation technologies
- Climate technology financing
- Emerging and cross-cutting issues
- Innovation and technology research, development and demonstration
- Mitigation technologies
- Technology needs assessments

Green Climate Fund
The Climate Technology Centre and Network and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) collaborate to support green technology deployment in developing countries. Such cooperation opens a wide range of possibilities to foster integrated implementation of countries' climate commitments. To facilitate their partnership, the CTCN and GCF regularly organize parallel regional meetings and capacity building for nationally selected representatives (National Designated Entities and National Designated Authorities) of both mechanisms. In 2017, the CTCN and GCF strengthened their cooperation by enabling countries to receive Readiness and Preparatory Support from the GCF for green technology assistance delivered by the CTCN. Such assistance includes:
- Support for feasibility assessments, testing concepts and developing GCF concept notes
- Strengthening proposals with key technical inputs

The Adaptation Fund
The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) partners with the Adaptation Fund to provide complementary capacity building support for the design of projects and programmes that implementing entities can submit to the Adaptation Fund Board for funding approval. Through CTCN's partnership with the Adaptation Fund, countries seeking project financing from the Adaptation Fund can request complimentary technical assistance from the CTCN to address specific challenges to remove technology barriers and deploy specific adaptation technology solutions. This CTCN technical assistance can enable countries to strengthen design of their project concepts and proposals submitted to the Adaptation Fund through early stage feasibility assessments for deployment of specific adaptation technologies, market studies, recommendations for regulatory reform, and other technical analysis. The Adaptation Fund was established in 2001 to fund concrete adaptation projects and programmes in developing country Parties to the Kyoto Protocol that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. The Adaptation Fund pioneered Direct Access, which allows developing countries to directly access financing from the Fund through accredited national implementing entities (NIEs) and manage all aspects of the project cycle - from identification and design, through to implementation and monitoring and evaluation. Countries that wish to access adaptation financing from the Adaptation Fund through Direct Access must first become accredited by the Adaptation Fund Board through an NIE of the country’s choicec. Global Environment Facility
At COP17, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) was requested to support the operationalization and activities of the CTCN, a request that has since been reiterated during COP18, COP19 and COP20. The GEF's role and long-term expertise in establishing conducive market conditions for technology deployment serves to support CTCN's technology transfer efforts and accelerates the achievement of global environmental benefits in targeted countries. Moreover, the GEF's financial support to CTCN activities in countries contributes to project visibility while reducing real and perceived risks, thereby acting as a catalyst for third-party capital providers.
