Climate Technology Centre and Network
The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) is a body mandated by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to assist developing countries in spreading environmentally sound technologies to address climate change challenges. Such technologies include any equipment, techniques, practical knowledge and skills that can be used to decrease greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere – mitigating climate change – and to increase resilience to climate change effects – adapting to climate change.
The TEC and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) form the Technology Mechanism. With the Technology Mechanism serving the Paris Agreement, the CTCN is the implementation body of the Technology Mechanism. It accelerates the development and transfer of technologies through three services:
- Providing technical assistance at the request of developing countries on technology issues
- Creating access to information and knowledge on climate technologies
- Fostering collaboration among climate technology stakeholders via its network of regional and sectoral experts
The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) is hosted by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and has a network of national, regional, sectoral, and international organizations that support it in undertaking its services. The CTCN is accountable to and guided by the Conference of the Parties through an Advisory Board. Developing countries may send a request to the centre through their national focal point, called a national designated entity.

Advisory Board
The CTCN operates within its terms of reference and is accountable to, and under the guidance of, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP) through an Advisory Board. The Advisory Board of the CTCN determines its operational modalities and rules of procedure based on the functions outlined in decision 1/CP.16, paragraph 123. The Constitution of the Advisory Board was agreed and amended at COP 26.
