Costa Rica is launching the National Circular Economy Strategy, with the aim to strengthen the economy, competitiveness, and social well-being through the circularity of all the resources on which the productive sectors depend.
More than 360 representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, CSOs, and NGOs were involved in several workshops, interviews, and consultations anticipating the development of the National Circular Economy Strategy.
The Strategy defines various perspectives of the most appropriate path for Costa Rica, prioritizing industry, agriculture, livestock, commerce, construction, and tourism and identifies the main gaps and challenges for a just transition period.
The Strategy was developed with the support of the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN), together with the Climate Change Directorate (DCC), the Secretariat of Sectoral Planning for Environment, Energy, Seas and Land Management (SEPLASA) of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), the Ministry of Health, and the consulting firm OCA.
The launch event will be held on June 27, 2023, at the Radisson San José Hotel from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm (Central Standard Time).
