Events facts
This side event is taking place as part of COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye.
Climate change is already cutting yields and incomes for smallholder farmers and fishers in the world's most vulnerable regions, just as demand for food is rising. Meanwhile, proven innovations - AI-driven advisory tools, index-based climate insurance, early-warning systems and climate-resilient seed varieties - remain locked out of the communities that need them most, due to financing gaps, weak institutions and limited digital infrastructure.
The Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) is working to overcome these challenges by introducing, supporting and scaling transformative innovation solutions to build more resilient agricultural systems around the world.
This side event brings together the AFCIA implementing entities – UN CTCN, UNIDO, UNDP, the Pacific Community (SPC) and WFP - agencies that between them cover technology transfer, industrial development, resilience-building and frontline food assistance - to showcase how coordinated UN system support turns pilot-stage climate innovations into nationally-owned, scaled solutions.
This will include a discussion on the kind of radical innovation thinking that will achieve a step-change in current approaches.
