Today: EU Pavilion, Room Brussels  – Refreshments to follow

Recent episodes of mass population movement have put migration at the heart of debates and political discourse at the EU and global level. Some push factors for migration stem from climate challenges, and their impacts can be expected to rise as a result of accelerated climate change - undermining the livelihoods and safety of those in affected areas. This side event will explore the nexus between actions taken to tackle climate change and the root causes of migration. Panelists will also discuss concrete examples of actions intended to advance individual countries’ climate change and development agendas in specific countries.

The panel will feature:

Introduction and moderation by Pradeep Monga, Director and Special Representative of the Director General on Energy, UNIDO

Opening by Mariam Traore Chazalnoël from the International Organization for Migration (IOM)

Panelists:

  • Libasse Ba, Environment Action in the Third World (ENDA)
  • Peter Story, Private Finance Advisory Network (PFAN)
  • Jean-Michel Clair, AACCES Support and Development in Niger
  • Bimal Raj Regmi, International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)
