The CTCN Partnership and Liaison Office (PALO), in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) and UNITAR CIFAL Jeju, is hosting a four-day learning visit in early September in Songdo and Jeju, Korea, on Energy Storage Systems (ESS), one of the most critical enabling technologies for the global clean energy transition.
The programme brings together 32 participants - government representatives and researchers from Small Island Developing States, Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean - for an immersive exchange with Korean experts at the cutting edge of energy storage research and innovation.
The visit responds directly to demand from developing countries: a global RD&D survey conducted in 2024–2025 identified 41 National Designated Entities with an interest in energy storage capacity building, spanning every region. Participants from Fiji, Haiti, Papua New Guinea, St Kitts and Nevis, and countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America will gain hands-on knowledge of emerging ESS technologies and explore opportunities for collaborative research, development and demonstration projects.
The programme forms part of CTCN's broader effort to stimulate North-South, South-South and triangular RD&D collaboration on climate technologies, connecting national climate focal points and researchers with world-class institutions to build lasting technical capacity at home.
