Activities undertaken in the last quarter:
Regional Training Workshop on Building Cities' Resilience to Climate and Disaster Risks: Held in Bangkok, Thailand from 24-28 February 2020, this workshop convened participants representing national and local government agencies, local universities, and civil society organizations from cities in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Maldives, and Nepal. The training was delivered in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and the Educational Partnership for Innovation in Communities Network (EPIC-N), with the financial support from the Ministry of the Environment, Japan. During the five-day workshop, participants learned about the Making Cities Resilient (MCR) global campaign, and tools such as the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities and the Quick Risk Estimation tool to support the drafting of a city resilience action plan. The training also introduced participants to the Asia-Pacific Adaptation Information Platform (AP-PLAT), and the EPIC-N model, which aim to support and accelerate knowledge-based climate action planning and implementation.
"This workshop has been a platform for me to learn tools and models on urban resilience. It has shown both path and direction of work I would be able to do sitting in the position where I am today. It has also boasted me with the support and encouragement of working with my students in this field." – Participant from Nepal
