Händelöverket is today owned by E.ON Värme AB. The first boiler was commissioned in 1982 and the site has since been extended and refurbished many times in order to always exhibit the latest environmental performance, the latest boiler was commissioned in 2011. Händelöverket is one of Sweden’s biggest and most modern power plants and it supplies Norrköping and Söderköping with heat and power and it also supplies process steam to Agroetanol for the production of ethanol. Händelöverket is an efficient system that utilizes 90% of the fuel’s energy. The fuel consists of 95% waste and biomass. The CHP facility combines modern waste technology for waste incineration with significant climate benefits, reducing annual carbon dioxide emissions by 120 000 tons.
