Networking & Collaboration

Technologies are vital to building climate-resilient, low-carbon societies. Many essential technologies already exist — the challenge is to get them deployed where they are needed, and to build the enabling environments to support technology innovation, adaptation and scale-up. An overwhelming number of developing countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement indicate a requirement for technology support and capacity building in order to achieve their commitments. To meet this need, the CTCN serves as a demand-driven and trusted partner, matching the needs of developing countries for climate change-related equipment, methods, capacity development, and policy advice with the world-class expertise of its Network and our collaborators.

Seoul National University R&DB Foundation

The Seoul National University (SNU) R&DB Foundation is an entity created to link the university's research accomplishments with the industrial sector. The primary objective is to promote the advancement of innovative R&D technologies for Korea's future and to strengthen national competitiveness. The Foundation was officially established on May 12, 2004, and is presently directed by Jae-Young Kim. The Foundation's purpose is "to facilitate the development of premier creative knowledge and essential technologies."

The primary objectives encompass: (1) Pioneering global collaboration between industry and academics, (2) Delivering research support services focused on customer needs, (3) Generating prospective technical worth.

The Foundation underscores the fundamental qualities of creativity and innovation, principles and professionalism, as well as communication and consideration. Primary tasks encompass research administration services, field-oriented R&D assistance, technology commercialisation, patent management, facilitation of faculty entrepreneurship and innovation, intellectual property management, and fostering opportunities for industrial partnership. The organisational structure includes multiple divisions focused on research fund management, technology transfer, patent administration, and startup support, facilitating tailored collaboration services for business and academia.

The Foundation was established in 2003 with the creation of pertinent foundations and financial management legislation, underwent organisational reform, and officially launched as a business in 2007–2008, thereafter expanding its activities. Significant milestones encompass the establishment of the Intellectual Property Strategy Division (2019), the creation of the Startup Support Department (2017), and the relocation to the University Research Park (2020), consistently broadening its service domains.
