Technologies are vital to building climate-resilient, low-carbon societies. Many essential technologies already exist — the challenge is to get them deployed where they are needed, and to build the enabling environments to support technology innovation, adaptation and scale-up. An overwhelming number of developing countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement indicate a requirement for technology support and capacity building in order to achieve their commitments. To meet this need, the CTCN serves as a demand-driven and trusted partner, matching developing countriy needs for climate change-related equipment, methods, capacity development and policy advice with the world-class expertise of its Network and our collaborators. 

African Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ARSCP)

ARSCP is a not-for-profit organization established in 2004 as a platform for multinational projects coordination and execution, knowledge sharing and networking amongst national cleaner production centres (NCPCs) and sustainable consumption and production (SCP) practicing institutions and professionals in Africa. Its Secretariat is in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It has 241members scattred in 41 countries in Africa.

The mandate of the ARSCP is to promote Sustainable Consumption and Production practices through implementation of the 10 YFP on SCP in African countries. It builds capacity, promotes new SCP centers of excellence as w ell as networking and clearing house for SCP in the region. It develops and replicates sustainable production and consumption by increasing awareness, fostering production of low-carbon products in the in this way promoting sustainable lifestyles and livelihood. This way it contributes towards climate change and environmental sustainability through reduced pollution, social sustainability, employment creation and economic sustainability through improvements in the production efficiency and profitability of SMEs in Africa and fosters realization of Sustainable

Development Goal No 12 on ''Sustainable Consumption and Production’’.

Since its establishment in 2004, ARSCP is a major network organisation in SCP in Africa. ARSCP has carried out several multi national projects in Africa including Global Trade in Produts cotaining Heavy Metals for UNIDO, Global SCP Policy Review, Water saving initiative for breweries in Ethiopia Ghana, Kenya and Uganda for UNEP etc. Further it has played an instrumental role of coordinating and providing stewardship in implementation of resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP)

initiatives for the affiliate institutions. ARSCP works within the broad 10 Year Framework Programme on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP) under which ARSCP hosts the African 10YFP Roadmap to 2025. ARSCP has played the coordination role in the implementation of a variety multinational projects, more recently the industrial symbiosis component of the EU funded Switch Africa Green (in collaboration with UN Environment, UNDP and UNOPS), and the GIZ funded Eco Mark

Africa (EMA) Certification & Labelling as eco-labelling, is at the core of the 10YFP actions.
