Adriana Gonzalez holds a licentiate degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Costa Rica, as well as a Master’s in Science degree in Renewable Energy from the University of Oldenburg, Germany.
Adriana has a broad working experience in the private and public sector, in academia and at an international level; and currently is the CEO of EcoCitizen, a small business focusing on helping businesses and government to achieve climate targets with the help of science and technology. Additionally, she offers lectures and workshops at universities around Europe on the intersection of climate change, women and technology.
Her professional experience includes her time working as a Special Advisor for the Minister of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT, Costa Rica); where she worked on the National Science, Technology and Innovation Plan, in which she included a focus on equality between men and women as a transversal aspect. Adriana also continues to be a visiting lecturer at the University of Bremen, Germany, where she gives lectures and seminars for Women in STEM.
She is also the founder and coordinator of the 500 Women Scientists Luxembourg Pod, an international group which seeks to develop the full potential of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as part of a larger global women’s empowerment network.
Adriana have been a negotiator at the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP) climate change talks, supporting the official delegation of the Government of Costa Rica in the UNFCCC process, as an expert on technology and its gender components. She negotiates Gender, and Technology - being part of the negotiation team who successfully approved the Gender Action Plan in 2019 - issues at the heart of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Adriana therefore contributes directly to the international legal regulation on such matters, and I closely collaborate with UN Women as well for these international governance processes.
She has been a guiding member and a leader in the for the past 19 years and currently part of the British Girlguiding Overseas in Luxembourg. As well making important contributions in local communities and at a national level in Costa Rica, Adriana have also lived and worked as a volunteer in three of the WAGGGS world centres in Switzerland, Mexico and India, advocating for and working on projects dedicated to women’s rights, and girl’s empowerment and education.
