Organizers: UNFCCC Technology Mechanism
Venue: UNFCCC Hub, Side Event Room 6, Blue Zone
With our world in a state of climate emergency, the urgency of developing, transferring, and implementing climate technologies is more critical than ever. As emphasized in the First Global Stocktake of the Paris Agreement, existing cleaner technologies need to be rapidly deployed, together with accelerated innovation, development, and transfer of new technologies, in order to support the needs of developing countries.
Since the establishment of the Technology Mechanism in 2010 and the launch of the CTCN at COP19 in 2013, the CTCN has steadily responded to an increasing number of requests from developing countries for support in facilitating climate technology development and transfer.
This event will explore the impact of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism in delivering technical assistance in developing countries to accelerate climate technology actions through the CTCN, its implementation arm. Participants will hear from various Technology Mechanism stakeholders, ranging from beneficiary countries to technical and financial partners, on how CTCN's technical assistance over the past decade has supported the accelerated implementation of climate technology actions in developing countries. Speakers will discuss how the catalytic interventions supported by the CTCN have led to enabling policies, technology adoption, and financing for large-scale implementation projects.
