About CTCN

The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) facilitates the connection between countries and climate technology solutions, expediting development and technology transfers for low-carbon and climate-resilient initiatives at the demand of developing countries. Positioned uniquely within the global climate action landscape, the CTCN serves as a vital link between all stakeholders, catalyzing collaborative efforts. It identifies and delivers a diverse portfolio of technology solutions, alongside offering capacity building and tailored advisory services on policy, legal, and regulatory frameworks to meet the specific requirements of individual countries. Leveraging the expertise of a global network comprising technology firms and institutions, the CTCN paves the way for national strategies, regional market aggregation, and the mitigation of investment risks, both in the public and private sectors. The focus lies on achieving transformative impacts and scaling up through national innovation systems and digitalization across five key areas: the Water-Energy-Food nexus, Buildings and Infrastructure, Sustainable Mobility, Energy Systems, and Business and Industry.

Our Mandate

The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) promotes accelerated, diversified and scaled-up transfer of environmentally sound technologies for climate change mitigation and adaptation, in developing countries, in line with their sustainable development priorities.

As defined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) climate technologies cover any piece of equipment, technique, practical knowledge or skills for performing a particular activity that can be used to face climate change.

Our Mission

The CTCN's mission is to stimulate technology cooperation and to enhance the development and transfer of technologies and to assist developing country Parties at their request, consistent with their respective capabilities and national circumstances and priorities, in order to build or strengthen their capacity to identify technology needs, to facilitate the preparation and implementation of technology projects and strategies, taking into account gender considerations to support action on mitigation and adaptation and enhance low-emission and climate-resilient development. (Decision 1/CP.16, paragraph 117 (b), 123)

The CTCN operates within its terms of reference and is accountable to and under the guidance of the COP through an Advisory Board.

Service Areas

The CTCN fulfills its mission by:

  • Providing high-quality technical assistance quickly and at no cost to developing countries via National Designated Entities (NDEs) when the NDEs request support with the transfer of climate technologies.
  • Fostering collaboration and access to information and knowledge to accelerate climate technology transfer; Working with stakeholders engaged in a wide range of activities related to climate technologies to facilitate south-south, north-south, and triangular collaboration and cooperation.
  • Strengthening networks, partnerships and capacity building for climate technology transfer, working with national stakeholders to build or enhance endogenous capacities.

To accomplish these tasks most efficiently and effectively, we work in country-driven and demand-driven, responsive and collaborative ways. And, we build on work carried out in developing countries, and we create links with other initiatives in order to support, accelerate and complete and the transfer of climate technologies to those countries.
