Access to freshwater is essential for our fundamental health and welfare. Water is also essential for sustaining agricultural productivity, and acts as a lubricant and coolant for many industrial processes. CTCN works to increase countries’ resilience to the impacts of climate change on water resources through partnering with organisations, research institutions and businesses. Together they provide established and innovative climate adaptation technologies such as water supply management using GIS, saline water purification and capacity building activities to strengthen vulnerability assessments in communities. Below you will find related publications, partners, CTCN technical assistance, technologies and other information for exploring this topic further.

    Summary:

Boreholes and tube wells are important adaptation technology measures for providing a domestic water supply during times of water shortages and drought. They extract freshwater from subsurface or deeper groundwater aquifers. The approach can include both creating new boreholes and tube wells (for example as a drought response measure), or deepening or rehabilitating existing ones.

    Summary:

Shifting the timing of use of water from peak to off-peak periods is of particular importance for increasing water supply infrastructure resilience, but also increasing water use efficiency. More balanced distribution of water demand across time can help avert interruptions in supply, as well as reduce costs for water, and particularly energy, within water supply system.
