This guidebook is divided into two parts. Part I familiarizes the reader with gender concepts and demonstrates the relevance of gender issues to climate change adaptation and mitigation, as well as to the relationship between gender and climate in the Sustainable Development Goals. When adopting a gender approach in a TNA, the TNA teams must understand the various gender-related barriers and constraints to the uptake and diffusion of technologies prioritized by countries.

The Women and Gender Constituency, along with other women, gender, and human rights advocates, has been actively pushing world leaders to ensure just and equitable climate policies that put respect of people’s rights and the integrity of the planet first, while responding to injustice among and within countries in relation to climate impacts and resilience. As the Paris Agreement enters into force, the Gender Just Climate Solutions shown in this publication are aimed at making gender equality and women’s rights central to just climate action.

Following the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015, ecbi produced Guides to the Agreement in English and in French.  These proved popular with both new and senior negotiators. We therefore decided to develop a series of thematic guides, to provide negotiators with a brief history of the negotiations on the topic; a ready reference to the key decisions that have already been adopted; and a brief analysis of the outstanding issues from a developing country perspective. These Guides are mainly web-based, and updated regularly.
