CTCN

A country cannot mitigate or adapt to climate change without first strengthening skills and the knowledge to do so. The CTCN works with network members and local stakeholders to provide information, training and support to build and/or strengthen the capacity of developing countries to identify, maintain and adapt climate technology solutions.  Capacity building and training can enable decision-makers to initiate change on local and national level. As part of this effort, the CTCN strives to develop analytical tools, policies and best practices for country-driven climate mitigation and adaptation.     The new Technology Framework and the need for accelerated actions was the focus of the CTCN Asia Regional Forum held 2 to 3 September, 2019 in Bangkok Thailand.  As expressed by Mr. Ping Zhong, CTCN Advisory Board Member, ‘We see fires in the Amazon and Siberia, record breaking temperatures in Western Europe and the Arctic Circle. These facts demonstrate that climate change isn’t a threat, it’s a reality.’

    The Asia-Pacific Regional Technical Expert Meeting (TEM) was convened on the theme of Decentralized Solutions for Smart Energy and Water Use in the Agri-Food Chain organized by UNFCCC secretariat in collaboration with Technology Executive Committee and the Climate Technology Centre and Network. To set the scene, Mr. Ovais Sarmand, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, reminded participants of the ‘climate emergency and the criticality of climate action…to raise ambition and mobilize stakeholders to build momentum for concrete action’.

    CTCN organised a 5-days training workshop on Green Climate Fund (GCF) project proposal development for 7 participants from 5 Direct Access Entities from Nepal, 3-7 September 2018 in in Bangkok, Thailand. The training was organised with the collaboration of the Ministry of Finance, Nepal’s National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund and implemented by the Asian Institute of Technology.
