    Although the suspension pre-heater (SP) system has good thermal efficiency, there were the problems about long time operation or capacity expansion because of the damage to the refractory inside. Then, the new suspension preheater (NSP) system equipped with a pre-calciner was developed in Japan.

    When high temperature clinker from the outlet of kiln is dropped on the grate of cooler, it is not in flat or balanced. With the conventional cooler, cooling air is supplied to each air chambers, because of imbalance of cooling air, heat recovery rate is approximately 50 to 60 %. For the purpose of the improvement of heat recovery rate, the air beam type cooler is developed. It has unique point as follows:

    The temperature of the exhaust from the SP or the NSP is about 400℃. Also the surplus heat comes from the clinker cooler. After the appearance of large-scale kilns, the power generator by the waste heat has been installed with the progress of technologies on the waste heat generation.
    The popular system is as follows: The boilers are installed at the outlet of preheater or clinker cooler. The low pressure steam is made in boiler by waste heat recovery. And, the electrical power is generated with the steam turbine.
