This multinational research project investigates demand-side management (DSM) measures that may provide viable alternatives to augmentation of electricity networks and also provide network operational services. This report discusses the fact that although "network-driven" DSM has the potential to result in lower prices, increased energy efficiency and lower emissions, the primary driver is to relieve constraints on distribution/transmission networks and assist network operators in achieving peak load reductions on request.
