This paper studies the welfare impacts of household grid connectivity using a cross-sectional survey conducted in 2005 of approximately 20,000 households in rural Bangladesh. The paper concludes that grid electrification has significant positive impacts on household income, expenditure, and educational outcomes. The paper also finds that income benefits of electrification on average exceed cost by a wide margin.
