This report asses the status of renewable energy in the archipelago of Vanuatu, located in the western Pacific Ocean.

Vanuatu has drawn up a National Energy Road Map (NERM) which acts as the energy policy. Actions needed to reach the NERM targets are divided into three categories and a number of recommendations provided on: intuitions and policy, grid-connected renewables and off-grid renewables.

Eight core activities are recommended to create the foundations for renewable energy in Vanuatu, including: Ensure the policies, regulations and legislation needed to support NERM are in place, create dynamic models of the four concession grids to determine how well they accept solar or wind connection at various grid entry points, implement and enforce national standards for on-grid solar installations and build capacity for on-grid and off-grid renewable energy technologies.
