Towards Smart Power Networks: Lessons Learned from European Research Fifth Framework Programme (FP5) Projects

This brochure describes the lessons learned from around 50 research projects under the European Commission's (EC) Target Action ‘Integration of renewable energies and distributed generation into European electricity networks,’ in the EC’s Fifth Framework Programme (FP5). The brochure discusses current power quality and reliability in the EC, the potential for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) deployment, the associated field and laboratory tests, and finally the socio-economic impacts of ICT deployment.
