This is a new tool developed for helping assess the scope of new water technologies in better and lasting water management in the Volta and Limpopo river basins in West Africa. Called TAGMI (Targeting AGwater Management Interventions), the new tool is meant to explicitly help assess the likelihood that any new water management technology will still be in use two years after its introduction. The tool incorporates technologies linked to conservation of soil and water, small-scale irrigation and small reservoir and takes into account factors that condition of its successful uptake, such as labour, skills levels and community organisations. The tool also distils well-known approaches that have yet to be widely adopted, as their optimal also use depend on various conditions, and is also designed to incorporate additional technologies appropriate to local geographical locations.
