The Stochastic Energy Deployment System is is a long-range model of the U.S. energy markets, which can be used to estimate how the U.S. energy economy will evolve in response to the development of new energy technologies, including renewable sources of energy and improvements in energy efficiency. The tool assesses whether and how markets adopt new technologies depending on their costs and performance relative to competing technologies and projections of how research and development may improve the performance of new technologies over time.
