Although Belize is a minute contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, it will be among those countries which will be severely impacted by Climate Change. These impacts pose major impediments to Belize’s efforts to promote sustainable economic and social development and the reduction of poverty.

The result of the greenhouse gas inventory indicates sectors in which the emissions can be voluntarily reduced. The vulnerability assessments served to advise how and where it is needed to adapt to Climate Change. Mitigation measures have already undertaken within the energy sector with the transition from fossil fuels to the use of renewable energy for electrical power generation. For the first time, a technology needs assessment exercise was conducted which served to identify technologies required to effectively manage Climate Change. The preparation of the Second National Communication therefore provided opportunities to mainstream results into plans and strategies for sustainable development.
