The development objective of the Adaptation to Climate Change Project is to increase the adaptive capacity of vulnerable coastal communities in Sao Toe and Principe to the adverse impacts of climate variability and change. There are three components to the project. The first component of the project is coastal early warning system and safety at sea. This component will help artisanal fishers adapt to the adverse impacts of climate variability and change by establishing an early warning system to disseminate timely forecasts prior to extreme events, distributing safety equipment and training on safety at sea, and reinforcing community emergency preparedness. The second component of the project is coastal protection for vulnerable communities. This component will address coastal erosion and inundation by piloting participatory adaptation measures in vulnerable coastal communities, and develop public awareness and improved coastal resilient policies. The third component of the project is project management. This component will support project implementation.
