This paper aims to provide a better understanding the local water cycle in the hydrological system formed by hillslopes, riparian forests and underlying groundwater in regions of Sudanian climate, where riparian forests are a key element of the landscape. As such, it intends to contribute to a better closing of the water balance both at local and at larger scales, which can benefit hydrologists and climatologists.
