This report gives an overview of housing conditions for people living in poverty in the Asia-Pacific region. It highlights the importance of community-led shelter development as well as discussing housing conditions with a focus on urbanisation and population growth in cities. Various types of informal settlements are explored. There is a chapter dedicated to the effects of inadequate housing on social participation and well-being. Factors which can cause inadequate housing are grouped in socio-economic, political and environmental, housing policy and market conditions. Examples of efforts to confront inadequate housing in the region are also given.
