Energy retrofits of existing buildings, specifically owner-occupied homes, is an understudied subject with large potential interest from both policy and practitioner perspectives. This paper considers how retrofitting can be understood in relation to the other everyday homeowner practices, qualities people want in their home and the desires with which retrofitting competes. The human dimension of the retrofitting process must be considered when the houses are owned, occupied and retrofitted by the same people.
