This report summarizes the findings of the committee on the development of biofuel in India. The report explores socio-economic and environmental concerns surrounding biofuels and offers possible solutions. One of the conclusions is that bio-diesel development by itself could become a major poverty alleviation programme for the rural poor apart from providing energy security to the country in general and to the rural areas in particular and upgrading the rural non- farm sector.
