The aims of this roadmap is to identify in detail priority areas for action with regard to energy storage, specify activities for international cooperation among different stakeholders and provide a framework to monitor progress. The choices in the roadmap reflect input and feedback gathered from over 150 stakeholders who attended four international IRENA electricity storage policy and regulation workshops in Germany, India and Japan. The roadmap provides a set of indicators that can be used to track progress and compare the different applications and features of electricity storage systems. The indicators include (1) indicators for tracking the technology progress and deployment of electricity storage systems and (2) indicators for tracking electricity storage system advantages for integrating renewable energy.
