This, the final installment of the Renewable Energy Technologies Cost Analysis Series, finds that the cost of wind power generation varies depending on whether analyzing onshore or offshore installations. Additionally, costs in Denmark and China are generally lower than the rest of the global market. The report finds that the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) from wind power ranges from USD 0.06/kWh to USD 0.14/kWh onshore and from USD 0.14/kWh to USD 0.19/kWh offshore. In areas with good wind resources, the LCOE is becoming very competitive. After a period of cost increases due to rising capital costs, costs seem to be declining once again, and the report forecasts that they may decline 6%-9% by 2015.
