The International Climate Initiative (ICI), of the German Ministry for the Environment (BMU), gives targeted support to partner countries that contribute to the development of the mechanism for "reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, including conservation and sustainable management of forests and the enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+). In concrete terms, the ICI focuses on the implementation of national REDD+ strategies as well as specific demonstration activities. Attention is paid to promoting synergies between forest protection and restoration, biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
