The objective of the Quito Metro Line One Project for Ecuador is to improve urban mobility in the city of Quito serving the growing demand for public transport. The Project will reduce travel time, decrease operational costs of the transport service, improve connectivity, security and comfort of the current system and reduce emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. This Project Development Objective (POD) is identical to the one used by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), one of the co-financiers of the Project, in an effort to have the same monitoring and evaluation framework, facilitate supervision, and reduce the burden on the client. This PDO adequately reflects the objectives of the Project, is measurable and is, therefore, deemed appropriate. The Project consists of the following five components: (i) construction of two metro stations of the Quito Metro Line One; (ii) infrastructure and equipment investment for the Quito Metro Line One; (iii) provision of train sets to operate in the Quito Metro Line One; (iv) Project Management; and (V) technical studies to support implementation.
