This report makes a first evaluation of whether it is technically possible, economically viable, sustainable and recommendable to build a rice straw/hulls fired power plant in Niono in Mali. Based on the available resource of rice straw and the possibilities for connecting to the grid it has been decided to analyse a 5-megawatt power plant. The report covers the technologies evaluated, the economic evaluation, the effects on climate and the local environment, and a risk assessment.
