This paper presents an overview of a wide range of power system flexibility metrics and tools available for decision makers involved in the planning and operation of power systems. Each metric tends to fulfill a different purpose for the end user, be it focused on the assessment of flexibility requirements, evaluation of available flexibility resources in each system, or methodologies used to assess the overall flexibility of a system. The paper concludes by highlighting current challenges and future trends in power system planning and flexibility assessment.
