Potential Impacts of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)

This paper aims to quantify the market potential of the inclusion of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)—defined in Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol—and the potential impacts this may have on the CDM market in 2020. The paper assesses the potential supply and costs of CCS projects in developing countries based on existing studies, CCS roadmaps, planned CCS activities, and an inventory of emissions sources. Particular attention is given to early opportunities.
