This study evaluates the perspectives for the introduction of biodiesel in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras where important advances in Costa Rica and Honduras are demonstrated, due to their large African palm plantations. This study also presents the main technical characteristics of the product, including its environmental performance, and biodiesel production processes with their respective advantages and disadvantages. Finally, an evaluation of the local production conditions for raw materials and vegetable oils within each country is carried out, considering current volumes and prices, as well as a cost comparison of production of biodiesel with international diesel prices.
