This case study highlights the learning from participatory video workshops set up to monitor and evaluate (M&E;) action research projects run by Community Based Adaptation in Africa (CBAA). From 2008-11, CBAA tested tools for community adaptation and knowledge generation in eight African countries while building the capacity of its partners and local communities. The project helped the communities to adapt to climate change and share lessons learnt with key stakeholders at local, national, regional and international levels. From 2009-10, InsightShare held workshops in Malawi, South Africa, Kenya and Zimbabwe, providing training in participatory video and M&E; to build the capacities of community members and staff. This enhanced the partners’ capacity to listen to the community members in their search for local adaptation strategies, and to monitor their pilot projects and climate related indicators.
