This paper focuses on the mainstreaming of gender into climate change adaptation at all levels in the Pacific islands region – from national policy to on-the-ground initiatives.

It argues that there is universal benefit when all women and all men are able to fully participate in development decisions and actions. However, the paper highlights that mainstreaming gender will take time and effort and requires responsive institutional arrangements, political will and commitment, gender awareness and skills, and dedicated resources. The paper argues that agriculture is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and adaptation measures are vital to guarantee food security into the future.
