This report aims to provide an overview of key regulatory issues associated with the deployment of renewable energy, particularly variable renewable energy sources such wind and solar power. It draws on the research and experiences from various international contexts, and it identifies key ideas that have emerged from the growing body of variable renewable energy deployment experience and regulatory knowledge. Such deployment generates various regulatory issues, including substantive, procedural and public interest issues, and the report aims to provide an empirical and technical grounding for all three types of questions as appropriate.
