This chapter of the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories outlines methods for estimating emissions of SF6 and PFCs from the manufacture and use of electrical equipment and a number of other products. It also provides methods for estimating emissions of N2O from several products. In most of these applications, the SF6, PFC or N2O is deliberately incorporated into the product to exploit one or more of the physical properties of the chemical, such as the high dielectric strength of SF6, the stability PFCs and the anaesthetic effect of N2O. The estimation methods presented in this chapter have been tailored to reflect these differences in emission profiles.
