In his 2011 State of the Union address, President Obama reaffirmed his commitment for getting one million electric vehicles (EVs) on the roads by 2015. While the United States currently has the production capacity to reach this goal, initial cost and the introduction and training of new technology could be significant barriers. Because of these concerns, the White House is aiming to improve consumer tax credits, offer stronger support to research and development teams, and develop programs to help cities prepare for the growing demand of EVs.This report provides an update on where the United States is in addressing these issues as a component of reaching its 2015 target.
